Houston Videographer Biography

Paul Pollard presents his Houston Videographer Biography.

BACKGROUND & EDUCATION

I'm originally from the Belize, the only English speaking country in Central Ameria.

In 1980, I graduated from Saint John's Junior College with an Associate's Degree in Science and I spent five years teaching math and physics in high schools across Belize.

In 1985, Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart, established a scholarship program at three Christian universities in Arkansas - Harding University, John Brown University and College of the Ozarks. "The objective of the program was to bring students from Central America and Mexico to the United States, to provide them with a college education, and to teach them the advantages of free enterprise and democratic society." Source: Harding University.

I was one of the first successful applicants in that scholarship program.  So I embarked on building my Videographer Biography.

In 1985, the television/video production industry was non-existent in Belize, and I believed I could be a pioneer in the business so I switched from math and physics to video production at Harding University!

Harding University had a very nice production studio at the time and communication students created content that was broadcast via cable to folks in Searcy, Arkansas. In 1988, I met my graduation requirement by producing and directing a weekly 15 minute series that was broadcast on the university cable.  So now I was on my way to build my videographer biography.

So armed with a video production degree and ready to build my  I headed out in a '77 Datsun 810 and drove three days through Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Brownsville, Mexico and finally Belize! It was a memorable trip!

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & FURTHER EDUCATION

I got to work right away in Belize, working with Great Belize Productions (now Channel 5) on the set of "Belize All Over" which was the first locally produced TV program in Belize. I also appeared co-hosted a couple of the shows.

In 1990 I started my own video production business in Belize. I had a professional Sony camera that back then was attached to a 3/4" Sony recorder. So shooting in the field was a lot more bulky than today!

In 1995, my son was diagnosed with leukemia and we came up to the States for treatment.  During that time, I met a former professor from Harding who recommended that I pursue a master's degree at Abilene Christian University. I applied and was granted a graduate assistant in the communication department. In 1997 I graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in human communication. That same year, I got a job at the Adam's Center for Teaching Excellence at ACU. I was in charge of the video production studio in the Adam's Center, creating instructional content for professors and creating content of the campus cable station - Channel 55.

I moved to Houston in the summer of 2003 and began working at Westbury Christian School in southwest Houston. I brought with me a lot of media technology know-how and equipment! I made promotional videos for WCS, built their first real website, took professional digital photos, designed the yearly sports magazine, wrote weekly press releases and provided technology support to faculty and staff.

In 2009, I established Pollard Media Productions, LLC and I've been offering video production services in the Houston area.  Now with over 30 years experience in video production, I look forward to serving you!
